Our 2024 Legislative Session So Far
2023 was a banner year for winning a bold, progressive agenda in the state of Minnesota, made possible by years of everyday Minnesotans across race and place organizing for it. This year, we’re continuing our work to make Minnesota the #BestState by advancing collective solutions to issues we face.
We are creating a clean energy future that includes every community…
Across race, background, and zip code, we all want our families to enjoy a thriving future with clean water, clean air, and clean energy. For far too long, fossil fuel executives have profited off of polluting our communities, spreading lies about the climate crisis they created. Thankfully, when we can come together, we can do something about it! This session we are advancing legislation focused on a collective approach to residential decarbonization that would include Minnesotans across income and housing type.
We are advocating for a fully funded childcare system that benefits families and workers…
Communities, families, and early educators across Minnesota will benefit when we prioritize fully funding childcare. But right now, child care centers are shuttering across the state, and parents are faced with a lack of options, many dropping out of the workforce altogether. That’s why we need legislators to invest in children by passing the Great Start Child Care Affordability bill, which would reduce monthly childcare costs for families and provide funding to childcare providers so they have what they need to provide high quality care. This year, we have the opportunity to make this a top budget priority in 2025 — and we need you to join us at the Advocacy Day for Children at the Capitol on Monday, April 15th to make it happen!
We are pushing to expand healthcare to all Minnesotans…
From Red Lake down to Red Wing, everyone in our state deserves high-quality healthcare they can afford. But for too long, large healthcare corporations have placed profits over the wellbeing of Minnesotans across race, age, and income. We can change that dynamic this legislative session by passing a MinnesotaCare Public Option so Minnesota can once again lead the nation in expanding access to healthcare. To make that possible, your legislators and Governor Walz need to hear from YOU.
We are building a future where housing is abundant, affordable, and empowering to residents…
No matter what we look like or what’s in our wallets, every Minnesotan should have a dignified, affordable, and sustainable place to call home. Yet too many of us across every walk of life are struggling to pay the rent or mortgage as housing costs soar. This legislative session, we are showing up to allow more housing options and advance renter protections so the future of Minnesota’s housing is abundant, affordable, sustainable and open to everyone!
We are expanding our democracy, making sure people are at the center…
Whether Black, brown, or white, immigrant or Indigenous, our democracy is at its best when every Minnesotan has a say in deciding our shared future. While other states are moving backward on voting rights, we need to keep moving forward this legislative session, toward a multiracial democracy that works for all of us. In 2024 we are supporting bills that would make it easier for college students to vote, provide protections for voters of color, and tackle big money in politics. And we are joining together to make the #BestState even better — in countless ways — one day at a time!
In addition to what we’ve listed above, we’re advocating for the Minnesota Debt Fairness Act, supporting free video calls for incarcerated Minnesotans, and pushing for legislation that would require large corporations to disclose their state tax returns.
