Then he placed the wounded man on his own donkey, took him to an inn, and took care of him.” </em></span></div><br /> <p><span style=”font-size: 14px;”>One of the most interesting sermons on the “Good Samaritan” was by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His interpretation of Jesus’ words forces us to consider three things: 1. God calls us to be loving ‘neighbors’ across religion, culture and creed 2. What role are we playing in the world? The “Good Samaritan”, the Jew in Need, the religious dignitaries who passed their neighbor by? 3. There is genuine critique of the Samaritan of only smoothing over the ills of evil as opposed to uprooting its cause.</span></p><br /> <p>As we wrestle with the realities of these considerations, let us put every effort in being a Good neighbor to our Muslim, Jewish, Christian, non-religious neighbors and not fall into the trap of a zero-sum game, a myth of needing to sacrifice one neighbor for another, or that we must either address immediate need (charity) or the root cause (justice). The world says we need scapegoats, winners and losers, and people to be harmed in order for others to succeed. We know that’s a lie. Whenever those in the lower deck need water, they have to go to the upper deck to retrieve it. So some of them said, ‘why don’t we make a hole in our deck so we do not harm the people of the upper deck?’ If the people do not stop them, they will all fall and be failures, but if they stop them they will all be saved.”</span></p><br /> <p>The Hadith mentions the fact that people in any society must live together and be at peace with each other, that each people have needs that need to be fulfilled – such as the need of the people of the lower deck to take water. The example of the ship is like people in a society where some people wish to engage in bad deeds by making a hole in bottom of the ship.</p><br /> <p>Injustice and corruption are diseases that can spread to our society if we don’t work together and be active in both recognizing it and eradicating it. A solidarity prayer for people of faith across the world in St. Cloud.</p><br /> <p>At each of these locations last weekend, community members – white, Black, and brown folks and clergy from all sorts of faith traditions, of all ages, and elected officials – gathered in love and solidarity to be with and for one another in the face of terrorism, Islamophobia and hate.</p><br /> <p>Being #GreaterThanFear is not a warm sentiment, it’s about actively standing up against hatred and fear in all its forms. The medical provider tax is scheduled to be “sunset,” or ended. This tax provides important funding for the Health Care Access Fund, which helps fund Medicaid in our state.
