January 2000:  Founding of ISAIAH

ISAIAH is officially created through the merger of three independent congregation based community organizations:  Great River Interfaith Partnership (GRIP) in the St. Cloud area; Interfaith Action in Greater Minneapolis; and, St. Paul Ecumenical Alliance of Congregations (SPEAC) in Greater St. Paul.

2004:  Development of “The ISAIAH Story: Who We Are and What We Stand For”

By acting in community, not isolation;
By acting on hope, not fear;
By sharing God’s abundance with all, not just a few;
We create a world with justice for all.

2008:  Development of “The Path to Transformation” guiding principles

ISAIAH begins to view all its issues through a racial equity lens.

2010:  Published three “Shining the Light” reports, co-authored by the Kirwan Institute for Race and Ethnicity

The reports reveal the ways we have built inequities into our State and how we can take a new path forward. Excerpts from “Shining the light: Revealing our choice,” page 2:

“As Minnesotans we need to fundamentally realign our public policies if we wish to create a sustainable and prosperous future that provides opportunity for all. Minnesota’s current public policies are not working to assure the conditions necessary for a healthy future for our State. We know this because we can measure glaring inequities along every major indicator used to measure the health of a community…

Inequities are built, and they can be dismantled. Policies, practices and assumptions create uneven opportunities and burdens that are perpetuated today by the status quo. We need to recognize and change those policies, practices, and assumptions that create inequality of opportunity… Policies may be racially neutral on their face, but they are often not neutral in effect.”
