Today, we can celebrate one of the greatest political comebacks in Minnesota History! We started this movement with the courage of our convictions and our belief that every voice should be heard. Against what looked like overwhelming odds, we threw everything we had into the fight to defeat the Voter Restriction amendment. And tonight, it happened!
It happened, in no small measure, because we made the decision to put our faith values into action. Our faith called us to build a state where the values of love and inclusion drove our politics rather than fear and suspicion.
Thank you for making your voice heard, and for organizing others to make their voices heard. Together, we had over 37,000 faith-to-faith conversations with religious voters in our state over the last six months. And we talked to hundreds of thousands of people online, in our congregations and in our communities.
None of it was easy. All of it was important. Tonight, all of us can take credit for a victory that makes it clear that everybody matters in Minnesota.
There is still much more to be done. Now we must take this movement and the values we have championed to our State Capitol in 2013. Inclusion, love, and a place at the table for all God’s people are at stake.
This is a transformative journey! Tonight marks a historic milepost in that journey. And we are excited to continue to walk and work together moving forward!
